Positively Africana founder, Aimee Salmon was recently honored with an amazing award—the Black Excellence Award on the Hill for the Hampshire, Franklin, Worcester district, presented by the Massachusetts Black and Latino Legislative Caucus.
At an event to celebrate the award, held at the Positively Africana gift shop at Thornes Marketplace, State Senator Jo Comerford presented Aimee with a citation, lauding her as an “inspiring force” and an invaluable leader within the community.
In her acceptance of the award, Aimee attributed her success to her upbringing, supported by her hard-working mother, and the unwavering support of her community. She expressed her heartfelt gratitude for the recognition, emphasizing the importance of economic empowerment for African women.
Positively Africana donates part of its proceeds to women in the Congo.
Looking ahead, Aimee envisions Positively Africana as not merely a store but a recognized brand that will create lots of opportunities for African women. Her vision is clear: to create more jobs and make a meaningful impact, both locally and globally.
