Black History Month: More Than a Month, It’s a Legacy

Black HIstory Month
Black History Month is not a month to celebrate what was. It is a month to honor what is—and to protect what we are building.
At Positively Africana By Aimee, we do not celebrate Black history in February and disappear in March. We live it every day—through the gifts we curate, the movement we lead, the dolls we create, and the women entrepreneurs we partner with across Africa. This is founder-led, mission-driven work rooted in Ubuntu: I am because we are.

Legacy Is Personal

Love can stretch across any distance. Sometimes, being apart invites us to get creative in how we show we care. When nurtured, love grows stronger no matter the miles between.

Celebrating Black History Month with Positively Africana By Aimee
I left the Democratic Republic of the Congo to build a bridge between two worlds. I did not leave my culture behind. I brought it with me.
Legacy is what we carry as we move through the world. It is what we refuse to let be erased. It is what we pass down—through stories, traditions, music, and the ways we love and care for one another.
Black history is not something that happened to someone else. It lives in your body, in the way you move, in the stories your grandmother told you, and in the gifts you choose to give.
At Positively Africana By Aimee, we believe every purchase, every dance class, and every doll placed in a child’s hands can become an act of legacy-building. We are not simply selling products—we are cultivating culture, centering representation, and creating spaces where belonging is guaranteed.

We Inherit Resilience

Our ancestors moved through impossible circumstances and created beauty, joy, and strength anyway.
They built community when systems tried to fracture it. They danced when the world demanded silence. They loved fiercely, dreamed boldly, and refused to disappear.
That resilience is not abstract. It is inherited. It animates your body. It fuels your refusal to accept anything less than dignity, belonging, and freedom.
This is not merely history. This is power. This is what we carry forward—and what Positively Africana By Aimee honors in every product, every class, and every initiative we create.

Black History Month Is a Call to Action

Black History Month is a time to recognize the lived experiences of Black people who have shaped, challenged, and strengthened our communities. It is an invitation to look honestly at the past so we can build a better future.
It is also a call to move. To dance. To celebrate. To claim your space.
When you move your body in joy, you honor those who could not.
When you show up for your community, you continue the work of those who came before.

Movement Is Legacy

Movement is one of the oldest ways we carry memory.
It is how we celebrate when words fall short. It is how we grieve when the world refuses to make room. It is how we remain tethered to our ancestors—and to one another.
When you dance, you are not just moving. You are remembering. You are resisting. You are reclaiming space that was always yours.
Our African dance and fitness classes at Positively Africana By Aimee are spaces where movement becomes medicine, joy becomes resistance, and culture becomes the heartbeat of community. Every class is an invitation to belong.

Representation Matters

When any child holds an Aimee Doll, they see themselves reflected back. They see possibility. They see belonging.
Representation is not luxury. It is medicine. It is the moment a young person realizes: I matter. My culture matters. My story matters.
Sometimes representation arrives in small, unforgettable moments. A little girl named Ruth once held one of our earrings in her hand—because she wanted one too, even though her ears were not pierced. That moment was joy. That moment was belonging. That moment was legacy being passed forward.

This is why representation is non-negotiable at Positively Africana By Aimee.

Community First

Ubuntu. I am because we are.
This is not just a business philosophy. It is a way of life.
When you shop with Positively Africana By Aimee, you are not just buying a gift. You are supporting women entrepreneurs and artisan partners across Africa—especially in the Congo—who are building businesses, supporting families, and creating opportunities in their communities.
Twenty-five percent of every purchase goes directly to women entrepreneurs in the Congo. That is not charity. That is accountability.
We partner directly with artisans and makers across Africa. Every handcrafted piece—from brass jewelry to Baoule fabric to Aimee Dolls—carries the story of the hands that created it. When you shop with us, you invest in real people, real businesses, and real change.

What We’re Building

Black History Month reminds us that history is not behind us. It is alive in every choice we make, every dollar we spend, and every story we tell.
This February and year-round, we are celebrating:

Handcrafted jewelry made by artisans across Africa using traditional techniques

The Aimee Doll Initiative—placing representation in homes and schools across the nation

Dance and fitness classes that build community and foster healing

Women entrepreneurs across Africa whose work we honor and amplify

But more than that, we are celebrating you—your courage, your resilience, and your refusal to accept anything less than belonging.

The Aimee Doll Initiative: A Movement Anyone Can Join

The Aimee Doll is more than a toy. It is representation. It is identity. It is the moment a child sees themselves and knows they belong.

This February, we are amplifying the Aimee Doll Initiative—a movement to place handmade dolls in homes and schools across the nation. This is not about one community. This is about all of us building a world where every child sees themselves reflected back.
The Aimee Doll Initiative is for anyone who believes representation matters. For educators who want their classrooms to reflect the full spectrum of humanity. For parents and grandparents who want children to know they are seen. For community leaders who understand that belonging is a right, not a privilege.
Each doll is a statement: you belong here. Your culture matters. Your story is worth celebrating. And this work—this movement—belongs to all of us.
Through this initiative, we put representation directly into the hands of the next generation. We are saying to every young person: the world needs your voice, your creativity, your joy. And it starts with seeing yourself reflected back.

Sponsor dolls for schools and children in need: – 25–100 dolls: $45 each (includes nationwide shipping) – 101–500 dolls: $40 each (includes nationwide shipping) – Classroom sets, grade-level bundles, and school packages available

Every doll placed is an investment in a child’s sense of belonging. Every sponsorship supports artisans in Africa and strengthens economic opportunities for women entrepreneurs creating these pieces by hand. Every person who joins this movement—regardless of background—becomes part of building a more inclusive world.
