The Real Story of Mother’s Day: Beyond One Day, Into Every Day

Mother’s Day is not a single moment. It is a movement.
At Positively Africana By Aimee in Northampton, MA, we are a media company dedicated to amplifying the stories of mothers—the builders, the creators, the leaders who shape culture, business, and community across all walks of life, across all continents, across all backgrounds.
This Mother’s Day, we are celebrating the real, lived experiences of mothers everywhere who are changing the world. From the mothers in the Congo building businesses with their own hands to the mothers in Northampton dancing and creating every day. From the mothers in Kenya to the mothers across America. From the mothers in hospitals and classrooms to the mothers in boardrooms and fields.
These are the stories that matter. These are the mothers we honor.

We Are Storytellers—And We’re Sharing Everything

Positively Africana By Aimee is more than a shop. We are storytellers. We document, celebrate, and amplify the stories that matter—not just Mother’s Day stories, but the full, real, lived experience of what it means to build community, create with intention, and honor African culture every single day.
We share:
The artisans behind every piece — Who made your jewelry? Where does it come from? What’s their story? We tell it.
The community moments — From our monthly Community Nights to African Women Gatherings to vendor events across New England, we’re documenting the connections being made.
The founder’s journey — From the Congo to Northampton, from fitness instructor to entrepreneur to cultural bridge-builder, we’re sharing the path.
The impact we’re making together — 25% of profits supporting women in the Congo isn’t just a number; it’s a story of transformation, resilience, and possibility.
The fitness, the dance, the movement — Classes, choreography, wellness, and the joy of moving together as a community.
The seasonal celebrations — Valentine’s, Juneteenth, Mother’s Day, Kwanzaa, and the moments in between that bring us together.
The everyday magic — A customer’s first visit. A repeat buyer’s loyalty. A child receiving The Aimee Doll. A mother wearing a piece that makes her feel seen.
We don’t just sell products. We amplify stories. We document culture. We celebrate the people and the moments that make Positively Africana By Aimee a movement, not just a marketplace.
And we want you to be part of this story.

A New Yelp Review We Had to Share

We just received a new review on Yelp, and it reminded us why we do what we do: we’re not only offering products—we’re creating an experience rooted in joy, care, and connection.
Here’s what a customer shared:
“The owner/founder, Aimee, is dedicated to customer satisfaction, and she shows her joy in talking with customers and shoppers. The service here is beyond compare. The range of exceptional products is stunning: gorgeous fashions, blankets, jewelry, tote bags, and dolls fill the store, all excellently designed and made. The quality of each item is evident in the designs, construction, and assembly, all based on high quality sourced materials. The value here is clear: pricing, quality, and beauty are all perfectly aligned.”
When we say gifts with meaning, we mean it. Every piece in our shop carries story—where it came from, who made it, and what it supports. And because we’re a media company at heart, we can’t help but share the journey and the experience with our community.

Malachite Jewelry from the Democratic Republic of the Congo

Our handmade malachite jewelry is proudly made in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC)—a region known worldwide for producing some of the most vibrant, deep green malachite on Earth. This stone forms naturally in copper-rich ground, and the DRC’s Copperbelt region is celebrated for its bright color and striking banding.
What makes malachite distinctive is that each stone is unique. Every necklace, bracelet, and pendant carries its own swirls, rings, and waves—patterns often compared to tree rings or peacock feathers. This means every piece is truly one-of-a-kind.

The Meaning and Symbolism of Malachite

Across cultures and generations, malachite has been associated with transformation and renewal. Historically, the name derives from the Greek word malache, meaning “mallow,”after the plant’s green leaves. In African traditions, it has been valued for centuries in both decorative and ceremonial contexts, symbolizing nature’s vitality and strength.
Many people connect malachite with:
Transformation and growth — a symbol of new beginnings and positive change
Protection and grounding — associated with creating a sense of safety and calm
Heart-centered presence — linked to emotional clarity and compassionate strength
Symbolism is cultural and personal; jewelry is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.

Care and Maintenance

Malachite is a softer stone and requires gentle care to maintain its beauty:
Avoid prolonged exposure to water, chemicals, and perfume
Wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth
Store separately from other jewelry to prevent scratching
Keep away from direct sunlight to preserve color vibrancy

Gift Malachite as a Set

A necklace for presence. A bracelet for everyday wear. A statement piece she can layer and make her own.
