For Positively Africana By Aimee, spring means two things at once: new arrivals coming into the shop, and the return of seasonal vendor events across New England. This is the season where our community expands. The road opens up again. And the prints, colors, and stories we carry feel even more alive.

New England chose us as much as we chose it.
When I moved to the United States and settled in Pioneer Valley, Massachusetts, I saw a gap. African culture was underrepresented, misrepresented, or invisible in many spaces. I saw communities hungry for authentic connection, meaningful products, and stories that challenged stereotypes.
New England became our home because it is a region that values authenticity, community, and cultural bridge-building. This region is such a bobble! From Boston to Providence, from small towns to college communities, we found people who wanted to learn, celebrate, and support African artisans and entrepreneurs.
But here is what makes Positively Africana By Aimee different: we are not just selling products. We are building a movement rooted in African Ubuntu leadership, the African philosophy that says “I am because we are.” Every decision, every partnership, every piece we curate reflects this belief. We are here to counter negative, one-dimensional portrayals of Africa by bringing positivity, beauty, fashion, and authentic community to life.

Spring on the Road: Seasonal Vendor Events Across New England
Before Positively Africana By Aimee became a store, it was a table, a rack, a few bins, and a big vision.
I started as a vendor traveling across New England—Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island—sharing authentic African products and stories in spaces where African culture was not always visible. Those early events shaped everything we are today.
Spring is when that part of our story comes back to life.
Every weekend on the road has its own rhythm: early mornings, loading the car, setting up the booth, greeting new faces, and seeing familiar ones return. There is something about spring markets. People are lighter, more open, more curious. They stop, they ask questions, they touch the fabrics, they listen. We connect and stay connected!

The Best Part: “You Are the Girl From the Street”
One of my favorite moments is when someone walks into the shop at Positively Africana By Aimee located at Thornes Marketplace (Level 2), looks around, and says: “You are the girl from the street.”
That is when I know the work is working.
It means they discovered us at a festival or market years ago, remembered the energy, the stories, the authenticity, and came back to find us again. Those moments are proof that vendor events do not just create sales. They create relationships that last.
What Spring Teaches Us: Kindness, Representation, and Community
There is a special kind of kindness you meet on the road.
Over the years, I have met strangers who became regular customers, customers who became friends, and event organizers who truly wanted African presence and representation at their festivals. I have learned that some organizers actively seek out African vendors because they understand: authentic representation matters.
Spring vendor season reminds me of a few truths I carry into everything we do:
Consistency builds trust. People come back when they feel seen, welcomed, and valued.
Story matters more than inventory. When you know what you are holding and where it comes from, it becomes more than a product.
Community is the strategy. Relationships outlast any single event, season, or location.
Representation is responsibility. When we are invited because organizers want authentic African presence, we show up with care and pride.
This is Ubuntu in action: we rise together.
